December 6-Blackshirt Girls Invite

Led by senior Rosa Zavaleta's 2nd place finish, the Park/Horlick team finished 9th out of 21 teams. Starting the day off strong with 3 staright pins, in the semi-finals she met up with Alyssa Modlinski of New Berlin who she outlasted in overtime scoring a 3-0 decision to make the finals. In the finals Rosa was tasked with having to face returning State Qualifier Brooke Shelley of Muskego. Rosa was unable to come up with the win but still finished 4-1 on the day. Also placing in the top 4 was junior Aleah Sanchez. After winning her first 2 matches by pin, Sanchez moved into the championship side of the bracket where she faced stiff competition. Aleah wasn't able to come up with a victory but finished in 4th place. Finishing in 3rd place for the P/H team was sophomore Celia Harrington, going 1-2 on the day and getting her first career pin. 

December 7-Nicolet Knight Invite

The Park/Horlick team had 3 wrestlers get multiple wins on the day at the Nicolet Knight Invite. The P/H team only had 5 wrestlers competing. Junior Damian Vaughn competed at 215 lbs, down from 285 lbs last season. After losing his first match of the day Vaughn came back and won his next 3 matches including 1 by fall to start the season with a 3-1 record to finish 5th in the scramble type tournament. At 165 lbs, Teddy Schwandt finished 3-2 on the day which was good for a 6th place finish. After starting the day off with a pin, Teddy lost a close 5-4 decision to Robbie Gallagher of Tremper. In his next match he piled on the points in s 24-8 tech fall victory and then won his 4th match with a hard fought 7-6 decision. Teddy dropped his last match of the day to finish 3-2. Also winning multiple matches on the day was Dillon Danielson at 120 lbs. Both matches won by Dillon were tech fall victories earning him a 4th place finish. 

December 12 at Tremper

Only having 7 wrestlers because of kids out to due injury and sickness, the P/H wrestling team fell to Tremper 57-10 in the SEC opener. Starting the meet at 120 lbs, P/H had to forfeit the first 3 weights before Ben Fillner stepped on the mat at 138 lbs. He quickly put P/H on the board with a :24 pin of Brady Zoerner. At 144 lbs, Laurence Miller was defeated by Nathan Hines. P/H forfeited 150 lbs. At 157 lbs, senior Royce Shabazz stepped on the mat and earned a dominant victory over Justin Smith to start his season off with a win. At 165 lbs, junior Teddy Schwandt had a rematch with Robbie Gallagher who beat Schwandt last Saturday 5-4. In another close match that came down to the final seconds, Gallagher was again able to best Schwandt, this time by a score of 8-6. For the rest of the dual meet all the matches went Tremper's way to close out the dual. 

December 14 at Whitewater Invite
Led by Teddy Schwandt's 2nd place finish, the Park/Horlick team finished 10th at the Whitewater Invite. The junior 165 lber was dominant in the first 3 rounds, pinning all 3 of his opponents in the first period including a :05 fall. In the semi's it was a rematch with Gage Romack of Janesville Craig who pinned Teddy at the Nicolet Invite the week before. This time Teddy made sure that would not happen again racing out to a huge lead. After 2 periods Schwandt led 16-2 and won the match 17-12 to make the finals. In the finals he was bested by Adam Haas of Shoreland Lutheran.  Teddy is now 7-4 on the year. At 144 lbs, Laurence Miller finished 3rd on the day going 3-2. Miller had 2 pins on the day and in the 3rd place match gutted out an overtime victory over Alessander Perez of Janesville Craig by a score of 11-8. Royce Shabazz finished in 5th place at 157 lbs, going 2-2 on the day with 2 pins. 

December 18 vs Franklin

Not much went right for the Park/Horlick wrestling team on Wednesday night as the more experienced Franklin Sabers came into the pit and had their way, leaving with a 61-17 victory. Undermaned and only having 7 wrestlers for the dual meet, Teddy Schwandt and Patricio Ibarra were bright spots on the night. At 165 lbs, Schwandt improved to 8-4 on the year with a dominant tech fall against Drake Renken. At 285 lbs, Patricio Ibarra picked up a 2nd period fall over Zach Guenther for his first SEC win of the year. Rounding out the scoring for P/H, Said Huzar won by forfeit at 106 lbs. 

December 21 at Badger State Invite

At the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, the P/H boys finished in 24th place out of 28 teams. The girls team finished in 30th place out of 47 teams. Leading the way for the boys was Teddy Schwandt at 165 lbs and Damian Vaughn at 215 lbs. Teddy went 3-2 on the day with a pin and a tech fall and improving to 11-6 on the year. At 215 lbs Damian Vaughn went 4-1 on the day with 2 pins. Vaughn is now 8-8 on the season. On the girls side Aleah Sanchez led the way going 3-2 on the day at 126 lbs. Aleah pinned each of her opponents in her 3 wins. She is now 7-7 on the season.  

December 27 at Waukesha West Girls Holiday Invite

April Steil led the the Park/Horlick girls to a 5th place finish at the Waukesha West Holiday Invite. The freshman went 3-0 with 3 first period pins to win the tournament. Her matches in the semi's and the finals she head threw her opponent to her back to get the falls. She improves to 6-7 on the season. This was her first tournament title. Rosa Zavaleta finished in 3rd place going 2-2 on the day with 2 pins. Rosa is now 6-3 on the season. Aleah Sanchez finished in 4th place going 2-2 on the day as well. The junior grappler is now 9-9 on the season.
